  • Who can use this program?

    This program is for caregivers and parents of children and adolescents who have experienced the death of their parent or caregiver. It is best to wait at least 3 months after the death before doing this program.

  • How is this program different from other online bereavement programs?

    This program is based on strong research-based evidence showing that its tools strengthen resilience in bereaved children and parents. This program emphasizes practical tools for parenting bereaved children and taking care of yourself as a parent or caregiver.

  • How will this program help my children?

    The warmth, support, and structure provided by caregivers is critically important in helping children cope with loss. Our research over 30 years has shown that practicing the family-care tools you will learn in this program has a positive impact on bereaved children and can help them thrive.

  • How will this program help me?

    In addition to the parenting tools, this program teaches practical tools for self-care, including being kind to yourself, setting and reaching personal goals, and guided meditation practices. Self-care is especially important for caregivers, since it is hard to take good care of others if you aren’t taking good care of yourself!

  • How much time does it take to do this program?

    This program is self-paced, so you can complete the sessions whenever is convenient for you. Each session is about 30 minutes long. You receive one session a week for 10 weeks. You can take longer between sessions if needed to practice the tools with your children before you move to the next session.

  • How do I know the program tools will work for my family?

    Every bereaved family is different, and every grief experience is unique. The good news is that hundreds of bereaved parents have found the tools in this program to be very helpful for both their children and themselves.

  • Why is this program called “Resilient Parenting?”

    Resilience is about doing well, and even thriving, after stressful situations, such as the death of a loved one. Parents and caregivers have told us that practicing this program’s parenting tools has helped their children and their family be resilient after loss.

  • Is the program offered in languages other than English?

    At this time, this program is only available in English. We are working to develop a Spanish language version.

  • Does this program work for children of all ages?

    This program is suitable for families with children of all ages, although many program activities work best with children between the ages of 3 and 18. This program also offers tips on how to use the tools with children of different ages to help you find the best way to use them in your family.

  • Is this program good for grandparents, aunts, uncles, or others who are caring for a child?

    Yes! Anyone who is parenting a bereaved child can benefit from the program. The supportive, warm, and structured family life that is so important for bereaved children can be created by a grandparent, relative, or other caregiver.

  • Can I use this program if I am receiving other bereavement services?

    Yes, while this program can be completed on its own, it is a wonderful complement to other services for bereaved caregivers and children, including support groups, counseling, or bereavement service agencies. We encourage you to share that you are doing this program with your service providers.
